Kerecis™ Omega3 Dura is a variation of the Kerecis™ Omega3 fish-skin acellular dermal matrix transplantation technology, especially designed for the reconstruction of dura matter.

Technical Overview

Dura mater is a leather like membrane covering and protecting the brain and spinal cord. The dura can become damaged as a result of head injury, cancer ingrowth or as a result of brain surgery.

Dural substitutes are necessary to prevent leakage of the spinal fluids and to ensure that dura openings heal after surgery. Dural substitutes can be either biological (from animal or human cadavers) or synthetic.

Dural substitutes must be similar to the natural dura and preferably have the ability to be absorbed and integrated into the patient's own tissue.

Technical Benefits

The Dura mater surrounds the brain and the spine and contains the spinal fluid. Leakage of spinal fluids is dangerous and must be contained. Kerecis™ Omega3 Dura is stretchable and easy to suture and has the potential to facilitate unsurpassed strong and lasting repair of the dura.
